Who this covers

This policy applies to the MPTree Android app and the website at mp-tree.net. MPTree is an offline music player built by Verkuijl. There is no company behind it and no server that stores your information.

What the app collects

Nothing. The app has no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind, and it never sends us your files, your playlists, or what you listen to. We have no way of knowing who you are or what you play, because none of that information is ever sent anywhere. The one request the app makes on its own is the update check described under Internet access below.

Access to your music files

To play your music, MPTree asks Android for permission to read the audio files on your device (the Read audio or Read storage permission). This access is used only to find and play your music on the device itself. Your files are never uploaded, copied off the device, or shared with anyone. If you deny this permission, MPTree simply cannot show your library.

Internet access

MPTree plays your local files and does not need the internet to work. It never streams, never sends us your listening activity, and never uploads your music or anything about it.

There is one background request, and only in the copy you download from this website: about once a day, when you open the app, it fetches a small file from mp-tree.net to see whether a newer version has been released. That request carries nothing except the ask itself. Like any web request, including loading this page, it does reach the server with your device's IP address. Nothing is stored against you, and nothing links one check to the next. The Google Play version does not make this request at all, and neither does the demo you can try on this site.

MPTree does not fetch lyrics. Tapping Search online on a song opens your own browser on a web search for it, the same as any other outward link: from that point you are in your browser, not in MPTree, and what happens there is between you and the site you land on. Lyrics you paste into the app stay on your phone.

Apart from that, MPTree opens a connection only when you tap an outward link yourself, such as the optional support page, which opens in your own browser.

Backups

MPTree can save a backup of your playlists, artwork, and music to a single file. That file is written to a location you choose on your own device or storage. It is never sent to us or to any third party. You are in full control of where it goes and who can see it.

The website

The mp-tree.net website is a set of static pages hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies. The feedback form on the site opens your own email app with a message ready to send. It does not submit your text to any server.

Cloudflare, as the host, keeps a running count of the requests it serves for this site: how many pages were loaded, roughly which country they were loaded from, and which browser asked. We look at those counts to see whether anyone is finding the app. They are totals rather than people. There is no tracking script on any page here, nothing is stored in your browser, no profile is built, and none of it is sold or handed on. If you loaded this page, you are one anonymous tick in a daily total, and that is the whole of it.

Comments on the website

The comment section on the homepage is provided by Cusdis, a third party, and runs entirely in your browser. Anything you type there, including the name you give, is stored by Cusdis rather than by us, and is public once posted. You do not need an account to comment, and the widget is not loaded until that part of the page comes into view. Nothing about the app itself is sent through it. If you would rather not use it, simply do not post.

Children

MPTree is a general audience music player and is not directed at children. Because it collects no data at all, it collects no data from children.

Changes to this policy

This page describes MPTree as it works today. If a future version adds something that handles your data differently, this policy will be updated before that version ships, with a new date at the top, and it will say plainly what changed.
